Description:

Urobilinogen is a substance found in small amounts in normal urine. Urobilinogen is increased in conditions associated with hemolytic jaundice and liver failure. In case of complete obstruction of the urinary tract the urobilinogen is absent from the urine because the bilirubin is prevented from reaching the intestine to form it.

Usefulness:

  • A tool in the detection of hepatic disorders, jaundice.
