4777 Leukocyte formula

Code and name of test:

4777 Leukocyte formula

The leukocytes are the blood cells with different origins and functions. They are formed of granulocytes, lymphocytes and monocytes.

The leukocyte formula shows the percentage of various types of leukocytes within the total count. In fact, it is not the percentage of the various types of leukocytes that is important, but their count in a certain quantity of blood; this is why the leukocyte formula must always be interpreted in relation to the leukocyte count.

Usefulness:

  •  the quantitative variations of leukocytes (upwards or downwards) beyond the normal limits and the morphological changes are important for diagnosing several diseases.
