Oxytetracycline is an antibiotic of the group of tetracycline produced by Streptomyces rimosus that acts bacteriostatically against the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (Actinomyces spp., Bacillus anthracis, Clostridium perfringens, Clostridium tetani, Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae, Listeria monocytogenes, Nocardia, Bordetella spp., Brucella, Bartonella, Haemophilus spp., E.coli, Pasteurella spp., Shigella, Yersinia pestis), micoplasmas, spirochetes (Leptospira, inclusiv Borrelia bourgdorferi – boala Lyme), Chlamydia, rickettsis and protozoa.
The main action mode is constituted by the inhibation of proteic synthesis at the level of bacterial cell. The bactericide effect is issued by high concentrations of antibiotic.
After the parenteral administration, the tissue diffusion is good and fast. The removal is made by urine, where there are made active concentrations.More info
Bovine, ovine, goats, swine, dogs and cats.
The treatment of the infections of respiratory, digestive, uro-genital apparatuses, caused by the oxytetracycline sensitive germs.
Bovine: actinobacilose, podo-dermatitis, pneumonias, pasteurellose, mastitis, metritis.
Ovine, goats: infectious podo-dhermatite, pneumonias, mastitis.
Swine: entherites, rubella, pneumonias, mastitis-metritte-agalaxy.
Cats and dogs: respiratory, uro-genital and gastro-intestinal infections, septicemias.
It is intramuscular or intra-venous administered slowly daily for 3 – 5 day:
Bovine: 4 – 8 ml product/ 100 kg body weight, respectively 4 – 8 mg chlor-hydrate oxytetracycline /kg body weight.
Ovine, goats, swine: 2 – 4 ml product/ 50 kg body weight, respectively 4 – 8 mg chlor-hydrate oxytetracycline /kg body weight.
Dogs, cats (intramuscular): 1 ml product/ 10 kg body weight, respectively 4 – 10 mg chlor-hydrate oxytetracycline /kg body weight.
If the animals don’t show an improvement of the health state, the veterinary will be consulted, for the re-evaluation of the diagnosis.
It is not administered for the animals with serious renal and hepatic disorders. For the dogs and cats, the intra-venous administration is not recommended. The intra-venous administration must be slowly made. Sometimes, certain reactions with a temporary character may occur at the injection place. There could rarely occur allergic or anaphylactic reactions at the animals with a hyper-sensitivity.
Consecutively to the treatment, the urine may be dark colored.
During the osteo-genesis process, the tetracycline may determine the coloring to yellow of teeth. It may be used during the pregnancy and lactation period. Avoid the administration of oxytetracycline associated to the penicillins, cefalosporines and aminoglycosides. The dilution with calcium salts is not recommended because the product may precipitate. The tetracycline must not be overdosed due to the intestinal dismicrobism, nephro-toxicity, to the negative effects over the calcifiation. It is not associated with corticosteroids because they mask and disseminate the infection.
