PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC ACTION

The microbial action of Chloramphenicol is stated by the inhibition of protein synthesis. It bindes to the 50 S subunit of the bacterial ribosome 70 S by stopping the formation of peptide chains. Binding to the specific receptor protein on ribosome, it is competitively prevented by clindamycin, lincomycin and erythromycin. Vitamin A supports the creation of internal, mucous component of the tear film.

Opticlor is active against a range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus hemolyticus which are involved in most ophthalmic diseases and very susceptible to the action of Chloramphenicol.
