Gentamicin is an antibiotic of the group of aminoglicozines obtained from cultures of Micromonospora purpurea with an obviously bactericide effect, independently of the multiplication stage of germs (the latency stage or the logarithmic multiplication stage).
The bactericide activity refers to the Gram-negative and Gram-positive germs, (Pseudomonas spp., Klebsiela spp., Enterobacter spp., Serratia spp., E.coli, Proteus spp., Salmonella spp., Actinobacillus spp, Bordetella bronchiseptica, Fusobacterium, Haemophylus, Campylobacter spp Staphylococcus, Streptooccus, Actinomyces, Erysipelothrix, Clostridium, Listeria etc.). Gentamicinhas also an action over Treponema hyodysenteriae., Mycoplasma, Leptospira.More info
Young bovine and swine.
The treatment of bacterial infections of digestive tube (gastritis, enteritis, dysenteries, enthero-colites) on the swine and young bovine produced by gentamicin sensitive germs.
Cattle – youth: on the first day two times 5 g powder / 100 kg bw (10 mg a.i. / kg G.C. / day) ; the next day continues with 4 g powder / 100 kg bw once daily (4 mg a.i. / kg G.C. / day) . The treatment is applied 3 to 5 days.
Swine: 8 g powder / 100 kg bw / day (8 mg to / kg bw / day) . The amount of water is determined by the
physiological category in growth and condition . The treatment is applied 3 to 5 days.
Administration is made orally in drinking water.
If animals do not show an improvement in health, the veterinarian should be consulted for diagnosis revaluation.
Hyper-sensitivity to gentamicin or other aminoglicozide. It is not administered on the animals with a serious renal insufficiency, serious vestibular disorders or on the pregnant females. It is not administered concomitantly with other aminoglicozidic antibiotics, with anesthetics, micro-relaxing substances or nephro-toxic substances. The daily overdosing or the extension of the treatment over 6-7 days may lead to nephro-toxicoses. The amino-glycosides may produce neuro-muscular blockage, facial edema, peripheral neuropathy and hyper-sensitivity reactions.
The hematologic and hepatic effects may rarely produce. It is not recommended during the pregnancy period. The amino-glycosides must be carefully used together with other neurotoxic, nephro-toxic and oto-toxic medicines: amfotericin B, other amino-glycosides, aciclovir, bacitracine (parenteral use), cisplatun, metoxifluran, polimixin B or vancomicin. On the use together with beta-lactamic antibiotics and amino-glycosides, it may produce the synergy against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and enterococci. The overdosing may produce oto-toxicity and nephro-toxicity. It is not administered concomitantly with other aminoglicozidic antibiotics, with anesthesics, micro-relaxing substances or nephro-toxic substances. It will be avoided the administration combined with chloramphenicol, as well as the administration of gentamicin with other antibiotics (ampicillin, carbenicillin, cephalosporins, erythromycin) in the same syringe, sulfamides, vitamins of the B complex, or with heparin.
