PHARMACO-THERAPEUTICAL ACTION

The ENTEROXIN is a chemo-therapeutic substance product of veterinary use, based on sulfadimethoxine, sulfonamide with an antibacterial-bacteriostatic effect. The sulfamides subside the p-aminobenzoic acid, necessary for the synthesis of folic acid, which participates to the activity of certain enzymatic systems with a role in the bacterial increment and multiplication.

Sulfadimethoxine acts towards a wide range of Gram – negative and Gram – positive bacteria: streptococci, staphylococcus, Klebsiella, Proteus, Shigella, Escherichia coli, salmonella etc.

INDICATIONS

ENTEROXIN – troches is recommended for the dogs and cats in the treatment of bacterial infections with sulfadimethoxine sensitive germs:

- respiratory infections: tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, pneumonias

- genital-urinary infections: cystitis, nephrites, metritis and pyometritis

- infections of the digestive tract: bacterial enteritis, bacterial enteritis related to coccidiosis at dogs, canine salmonellose

- dermal infections: pustular dermatitis, abscesses, infected wounds

- infections of anal glands

 

POSOLOGY, ADMINISTRATION WAY AND MODE

ENTEROXIN – troches are orally administered, as that, or are embedded in the food, after the mincing of the troche.

Initial dose: 1 tablet / 4,5 kg body weight (55 mg s.a./kg g.c./ the first day)

Keeping dose: 1/2 tablet/ 4,5 kg body weight (27,5 mg s.a./kg g.c. / day), for 4 – 6 days. The treatment will continue for 2 – 3 days after the disappearance of symptoms.

If the animals don’t show an improvement of the health state, the veterinary will be consulted, for the re-evaluation of the diagnosis.

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS, CAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS

It is not administered for the animals knows as allergic to sulfonamides. It is not administered for the animals with serious renal and hepatic disorders. The product is well tolerated by observance of the prescribed dosing. Rarely, it may occur belches (hives), gastric irritation (anorexia, belches), polyarthritis, keratites. It will be avoided the administration together with: oral anti-coagulating agents (stressing of the anti-coagulating action); salicylates, phenylbutazone, indometacin; oral anti-diabetics (hyperglycemia danger).

The toxicity of this product is low, being tolerated 5 times higher doses than the common therapeutic doses. Rarely, in the case of overdosing, depressive states and anorexia may occur. It is not recommended the administration of the product in the mix with other antibiotics. Incompatible to the powerfully oxidation agents.

To be kept at a lower temperature than 25°C. To be protected against the direct light. To be protected against frost.
