PHARMACOTHERAPEUTIC ACTION

Caffeine is an alkaloid with tonic action on the central nervous system, increasing sensorial acuity. Due to the central stimulant action on medullary centers, IT is a respiratory analeptic. Increase the strength of contraction of the heart, improving its rhythm. The kidney cutaneous peripheral vessels, coronary vasodilation has compensation to produce vasoconstriction within splanchnic. Caffeine has a diuretic action by vasodilatation in the bone marrow and in kidney reabsorption by decreasing bone marrow.

INDICATIONS

NATRIUM BENZOIC CAFFEINE injection solution 25% is recommended in food and drug poisoning, shocks, peripheral vascular collapse, sapremice states, sepsis, piemie, after laborious calving, dystocia, pneumonia, bronchopneumonia, peritonitis, infectious and parasitic diseases.

 

DOSAGE, ROUTE AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION

Typically, the product is injected subcutaneously in the following doses:

- Horses, cattle adults: 8-20 ml / day (1 to 2.5 g caffeine), on several occasions (maximum 10 ml / Half)

- Calves: 1-5 ml / day (0.125 to 0.625 g caffeine), on several occasions (max. 3 ml / Half)

- Sheep, goats, swine: 1-5 ml / day (0.125 to 0.625 g caffeine), on several occasions (max. 3 ml / Half)

- Dogs, cats: 1-2 ml / day (0.125 to 0.250 g caffeine), in maximum half of 1 ml / half

In collapse, poisoning and as a diuretic in horses and cattle, the product is injected intravenously at a dose of 10-25 ml (1 to 3.125 g caffeine), diluted in 10-25 ml of normal saline or glucose.

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS, PRECAUTIONS AND ADVERSE REACTIONS

The product CAFEINA NATRIUMBENZOICA 25% should not be used in agitation states, cardiac diseases (tachycardia, myocarditis) and strychnine poisoning. Do not use for awakening from narcosis. When administered i.v. the product will be injected very slowly. Administer subcutaneously sometimes can cause local reactions. Rarely mild agitation increased diuresis. Avoid concomitant use with: quinolones, estrogens, isoxsuprin, methoxalen, maxiletin, procarbazine. Use with caution in animals treated with phenytoin, nicotine, beta blockers, theophylline.

Overdose may cause restlessness (agitation), tachycardia, vertigo, tremor of the extremities, vision and hearing in extremis, cardiac arrest.
