More info

The Biavac vaccine is used for the specific prophylaxis of the avian infectious bursitis. The healthy chickens starting from the age of 8-14 days are inoculated, depending on the level of maternal antibodies. The immunity installs after 14 days from the inoculations and lasts for 55 days.

The vaccine is administered in the drinking water. The time of first inoculation is established depending on the race or the hybride used in production and on the level of maternal antibodies. For the employees of Romania, the optimum age for inoculation is 8 – 10 days.

Re-constitution of the vaccine:

The vaccine is in the phials of 6 ml air-locked closed and sealed after lyophilizing.

The inoculation is performed by a vaccine reconstituted in a diluting agent, which is a clear, low opalescent solution.

It is correctly measured the water volume reported to the number of poultry that are inoculated and there will be used the phials with vaccine depending on the number of poultry that are inoculated and on the number of doses written on the label pf the phial.

The vessels where it is prepared the vaccine solution in the drinking water will be clean and without

traces of disinfectants or detergents that may destroy the virus (attention to the chlorine of water!).

The vaccine is homogenized in the water, ensuring that all the vaccine phials are emptied and cleaned.

The solution this way prepared is immediately administered at poultry.

For the reconstitution, it is used cold, clean water, where the presence of chlorine must not be felt at taste and odour. It is known that the presence of chlorine even below 1 ppm has negative effects on the virus stability. To prevent these negative effects, it is used skim milk (500 ml / 10 liters of water). It is mixed into the water for the vaccine and after 15-30 minutes, the vaccine may be added, too. Attention! it is not used fat milk, which could block the automatic distribution water system.

The water volume for the reconstitution of vaccine:

The water volume for the reconstitution depends on the age of poultry that

are inoculated and on the practice used in the farm.

The quantity of water per chicken may be increased at the heavy races or in the very warm days.

Generally, 2 liters of water are calculated for 1000 chickens for each day of age.

E.g.: Chickens of 11 days old = 22 liters of water for 1000 chickens. In order to consume fast and entirely the water with vaccine, it is recommended a water deprivation 20-30 minutes before the inoculation .

During the inoculation, the fodders must be available in the foodstuff (the poultry are not generally consuming water if they do not consume fodders).

The quantity of water with vaccine must be consumed in 1-2 hours from the intake.

After the consumption of water with vaccine, the automatic nourishment with water may be opened.

Intaking ways

The Biavac vaccine is orally administered in the drinking water or individually on the ocular conjunctiva way.

For the individual intake each vaccine dose is reconstituted in 10-40 ml drinking water, depending on the age of chickens and on the race.

The age where the chickens may be inoculated depends on the level of maternal antibodies based on the establishment of immunological status, therefore the vaccine is made depending on the category of chickens and the inoculation scheme of the reproduction powers.

Generally, if the parents were inoculated with alive BIA vaccines, the broiler chickens, the replacing young will be inoculated at the age of 8-14 days, depending on the level of maternal antibodies.

The Biavac vaccine is not used in the groups where BIA or other infectious and/ or parasitic diseases evoluate.

The vaccine against the infectious bursitis Biavac does not product local or post-inoculation reactions. The optimum inoculation time depends on the epidemiological situation of the groups of poultry and the immunologic status of chickens and parents they result from. Depending on these results, one, two or several rappel inoculations may be made.

For a correct intake, at the individual ocular conjunctiva application, it is instilled one drop in each eye and it is checked the procurement of 20 drops of vaccine for 1 ml. For the intake in the drinking water, each vaccine dose is reconstituted in 10-40 ml (depending on the age of race chickens) of clean and without disinfectants drinking water (especially chlorine).  For the protection of vaccine virus, it is recommended the adding in the water where it is reconstituted the vaccine of skim powder milk in percent of 0,2 – 0,5%.

The correct intake supposes the observance of the following conditions:

- the reconstituted vaccine, which has the aspect of a clear, light opalescent solution will be used within 2 hours:

- interruption of any medicine or disinfectant treatment by the drinking water 24-48 hours before the inoculation;

- the inspection of drinking water nourishment, therefore to be certainty that all the poultry access the water at the same time;

- the drinking water must have the temperature of 4 – 10°C;

- the hydric diet of chickens for 1-2 hours before the intake of the vaccine;

- not to be supplemented the drinking water but after the full consumption of the vaccine.

The vaccine is used within max. 2 hours from the reconstitution in the diluting agent. The general conduct norms regarding the handling of veterinary biological products will be observed.

In the case of accidental inoculation of this product at human, immediately require the physician’s advice and show him the product prospect. The operating staff with a known sensitivity to one of the vaccine compounds must avoid the contact to it. Only the healthy chickens/ poultry will be inoculated. The immunogenicty of vaccine may be decreased by the inappropriate storage of the vaccine or a wrong intake while the immunocompetent system of chickens may be impaired by a whole series of factors, like: health, nutrition, stress, interactions with other medicines.

The chickens with a very high level of anti IBDV specific antibodies will not be inoculated. The optimum inoculation day will be established depending on the level of maternal seric antibodies.

The poultry are not inoculated during the blowing period. It is not enough information regarding the safety and efficacy of this product with other products, except for the vaccine Newcastle La Sota, which may be administered three days before the inoculation and 8 days after the inoculation. A decision regarding the use of this vaccine before or after any other veterinary medicinal product needs a specific analysis. Not to be mixed with other vaccines or medicines.

To be kept and transported under refrigeration conditions (2-8°C). To be protected against the direct sun light.

The vaccine is delivered in glass phials of 6 ml with 100, 1000, 2000 doses.
